Walking for Health

Every Thursday, 10am – 11.30am

Gentle strolling is a good start for people who are not used to exercise – it is one of the best ways to become more active. Walking For Health has been developed in partnership with Doncaster Primary Care Trust. Meet at the Community Environment Centre, Sandall Beat Wood, off Leger Way.

Walks for Women – Brodsworth Community Woodland (4 miles)

Women walkers

Saturday 3 January, 10.30am – 12.30pm

Step out to walk off the Christmas pud on this wintry wander around the woodland.  Organised in partnership with the Forestry Commission.  Meet at the car park, Brodsworth Community Woodland, Off Longlands Lane, Woodlands.  Map ref: 526078

New Year Walk - Sandall Park (2 miles)

Sunday 11 January, 10.30am – 12pm

Join us for a gentle stroll to kickstart your New Year fitness and fresh air resolution! Meet in the car park next to the cafe, sandall Park, Thorne Road.

Junior Rangers

Saturday 17 January, 10am – 12pm

Fun activities for 8 – 11 year olds from pond dipping and shelter building, to games and crafts. Membership needed. Please phone the team on 01302 300798 to join.

Sunday 18 January, 10am – 12pm

Free monthly activities in, about and for the environment, especially for you and your child to share. Children up to 11 years welcome accompanied by a parent or guardian. Meet at Sandall Beat Community Environment Centre, Sandall Beat Wood, off Leger Way.

Friends of Sandall Beat Wood

Every Thursday 1 – 3pm and Saturday 24 January, 10am – 1pm

Friends are local volunteers who meet regularly to carry out practical woodland management at this important Local Nature Reserve. Just bring yourself and your enthusiasm - we’ll provide a warm welcome. Meet at Sandall Beat Community Environment Centre, Sandall Beat Wood, Off Leger Way.

Walks for Women - Snowdrop Special (4 miles)

Saturday 7 February, 10.30am – 12.30pm

A stroll along the canal bank to enjoy Kirk Bramwith Snowdrop Festival and Craft Fayre. Tea and coffee available.  Meet at the swing bridge, Forstead Lane, Barnby Dun (roadside parking in the village only). Map ref: 619088

Snowdrop Saunter (4 miles)

Sunday 8 February, 10:30am – 12.30pm

All welcome to join a winter wander along the canal to see this year's first snowdrops and visit the Craft Fayre in St Mary's Church, Kirk Bramwith. Organised in partnership with St Mary's Church Kirk Bramwith.  Meet at the swing-bridge, Forstead Lane, Barnby Dun (roadside parking in the village only).

New Year Walk - Woods, Fields, Parks and a Hilltop (4.5 miles)

Sunday 8 February, 10.30am – 1pm

Explore your doorstep countryside on this rural trial at the edge of the town and spot some of our feathered winter visitors. Refreshments available at the Community Environment Centre, after the walk.  Meet at the Community Environment Centre, Sandall Beat Wood, Off Leger Way.

Half Term Family Fun - Woodland Wanders

Monday 16 February, 10am – 12pm and 1pm - 3pm

Activities for children aged 4-11 years, children must bring an adult, a smile and a pair of wellies.  Come down to the woods and have a go in the Story Bus plus fantastic fun and games discovering woodland wildlife.  Meet at the Community Environment Centre, Sandall Beat Wood, Off Leger Way.

Half Term Family Fun - Playtime in the Woods

Tuesday 17 February, 10am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm

Come and share some playtime adventures with your child.  Plus spend a morning with Sparkey, the big Purple Playbus!  Children up to 11 years welcome, a parent or guardian must accompany all children.  Organised in partnership with Askern Children's Centre.  Meet at the Community Environment Centre, Sandall Beat Wood, Off Leger Way.

Wednesday 18 February, 1pm – 3.30pm

Join us to build a new home for this year's brood of birds in your garden. Price £2.50 per box.  Prizes for the best-built boxes. Pruning and Coffee at Cusworth Hall Park

Wednesday 4 March, 9.30am– 11.30am

Join the gardening team at Cusworth Park to top-up your pruning techniques and share a friendly half hour chat over coffee.  This time we will be focusing on woody shrubs.  Tools will be provided, but bring your favourite secateurs if you prefer.  There will be a small charge for refreshments. Meet at Cusworth Hall and Park, Cusworth Lane, Cusworth.

Walking for Health Volunteer Walk Leader Training Day

Friday 13 March, 9.30am – 4.30pm

A one-day course for anyone over the age of 18 who is willing and able to lead walks in the community.  We offer the chance to learn new skills with like-minded people plus ongoing support. Please contact us for details and to book your place.

Come and meet the members of Through the lens photography club and learn useful hints and tips to improve your photography skills.  Bring your own camera and be prepared for a photo trail around the wood. CEC Open Day - Springtime Myths and Masks
