Temporary Closures

Rights of Way Closure

Listed below are the recent and planned closures. Please contact the Rights of Way Department if you require further information (details above).

St. Helen's Lane at Barnburgh

The full length of St Helen's Lane at Barnburgh will be closed from the 1st March to the 21st May in order to protect the public and workforce while YEDL lay a new high voltage cable. A public footpath goes from Barnburgh to Barnburgh Cliff from the village itself as an alternative for walkers, while Stables Lane, which leaves the west end of the village and goes to Barnburgh Cliff, provides an alternative for riders and walkers.

Roman Ridge at Woodlands and Scawsby

Three sections of the Roman Ridge will be closed for periods between the 1st March and 31st August to permit archaeologists to excavate and survey the road. The closures will only be effective when the excavations are taking place and at the time closure notices will posted up on site. At other times the route will still be open.

The sections are

South bank of the River Don between Stainforth and South Bramwith

The footpath that runs along the south bank of the River Don between Stainforth and South Bramwith is closed until the 31st March 2010 to permit the Environment Agency to carry out improvements to the flood defences. The alternative route lies along the north bank of the River Don.

Footbridge across the A1M at Warmsworth

The footbridge carrying a public footpath across the A1M between Low Road East and Barrel Lane in Warmsworth will be closed for 3 months from the 4th January 2010 to permit the Highways Agency to carry out repair work. The alternative will be to use the public footways round the roundabout on the High Road.

Wadworth Bridge (River Torne crossing)

Wadworth Bridge VandalismDue to vandalism and the theft of the support structure of the bridge crossing the River Torne between Wadworth and Rossington ("Waddy Bridge") it started to collapse and the remains were removed for safety reasons. The public bridleway leading from Grange Lane in Rossington to Carr Lane in Wadworth is therefore closed for the foreseeable future. There is no alternative route available.

Hale Hill Lane - Hatfield Woodhouse

The public footpath known as Hale Hill Lane in Hatfield Woodhouse has now been closed. Recent gravel extraction at the adjacent quarry has taken place right up to the edge of the route and there is now a danger that the lane itself will slip into the workings below. The footpath is now closed for the forseeable future until some form of stabilisation can be implemented. The nearby bridleway on Gatewood Lane is not affected and offers an alternative route for the public.

Closure of bridleways at Hatfield Colliery

The old pit tip at Hatfield Colliery is to be the site of a new power station. In order to carry out the initial groundworks, the two bridleways that come from Bootham Lane and Cuckoo Lane in Hatfield will temporarily be closed north of the railway line. The closure will last for 6 months from the 4th January 2010. The bridleways will be reinstated on their original line when the work is completed, however plans for a permanent diversion are currently under consideration and will be subject to public consultation and legal process in due course. An alternative link between Hatfield and Kirton Lane lies along Bailey Lane by the side of the M18. Bailey Lane can be accessed from Cuckoo Lane along North Ings Lane, Crook Tree Lane and Nettlehome Lane.

Closure of public footpath between Alderson Close and Common Lane in Tickhill

The section of public footpath between Alderson Close and Common Lane in Tickhill will be closed for 6 months from the 4th January 2010 to permit groundworks to be undertaken prior to the development of the site. The footpath will be reinstated on its original line when the work is completed, however plans for a permanent diversion are currently under consideration and will be subject to public consultation and legal process in due course. An alternative route lies along the roadside footways on Alderson Drive.
