Changes to the Rights of Way network that have been confirmed
The text and plans below describe changes to the Rights of Way network that have completed all of their legal stages and are now confirmed. You may now use the new routes and diversions and you may no longer use any extinguished routes or diverted sections. Diversion plans attached below will have the old and new routes marked on them for clarity.
It is assumed that the interested Rights of Way user has acquired the recently issued (Feb 2006) Explorer series of Ordnance Survey maps. A new map annotated with the changes listed on this web page will provide an up to date view of the Rights of Way network in Doncaster.
Common Lane to Back Lane at Clifton
Public footpath rights have been recognised along the small alleyway connecting Common Lane to Back Lane at Clifton.
Public Footpath No 5 Conisbrough
The line of Conisbrough public footpath No 5 near Holywell Lane shown on the Definitive Map now matches the route on the ground.
The new line on the legal documents now shows the route following the path followed at the top of the cliff for many years by the public and therefore there will be no changes observed on the ground by walkers.
Footpath along the south bank of the River Don between Hexthorpe Park and Warmsworth viaduct
Public Footpath rights have now been recognised for the route along the south bank of the River Don between Hexthorpe Park and Warmsworth parish boundary at the disused rail viaduct. The path has been in use for many years and connects with an existing Public Footpath within Warmsworth.
Armthorpe Public Footpath Extinguishments
A number of rights of way within Armthorpe have been extinguished. Those routes affected in the area of the Lime Tree Avenue/Beech Road estate appear to have been incorrectly recorded at the time when the original parish survey of rights of way was undertaken in the 1950s. Those affected south of Church Street currently exist as the result of some incomplete extinguishments when planning approval was given for the housing developments in the area. All footways (paths adjacent to roads) are completely unaffected.
Toad Holes Lane (Rossington 1)
The length of Toad Holes Lane in Rossington from the end of Atterby Drive to the boundary of the old Crossing Keeper's cottage next to the railway has been dedicated as a Restricted Byway by Doncaster Council. A Restricted Byway may be used by walkers, cyclists, horseriders or horse drawn vehicles. Please note that the rail crossing itself is only open to pedestrians.
Bawtry Public Footpath 12
A new Public Footpath has recently been dedicated between Station Road and Gresley Avenue in Bawtry.
Hatfield Public Footpath 54 - Dunscroft Playing Field
Public Footpath rights have been recognised for the path between York Road and Broadway across Dunscroft Playing Field, Hatfield.
Tickhill Public Footpath 29 - Hopyard Lane
Public Footpath rights have been recognised along Hopyard Lane in Tickhill between the junction of Common Lane and Sheepwash Lane and the southern end of Tickhill footpath 4 (leading to Rossington).
Tickhill Footpath 31 - lane alongside the A1M
A new Public Footpath has been created along the lane running alongside the western border of the A1M from Sunderland Street.
The path follows the lane southwards from Sunderland Street, starting at the new stile, until it meets the drain after around 800 metres. It then goes west along the edge of the drain to meet the footpaths already in use. Please do not trespass on adjoining land.
Hooton Pagnell Footpath 11 diversion
A small diversion has been made for the most easterly section of Hooton Pagnell Footpath 11 in order to align it with the ploughing line. The diverted line is actually the line walked by most people in recent years.
Cantley Footpath 13
A newly recognised, but long established Public Footpath in Cantley. It runs parallel to and alongside the M18 between Doncaster Road (B1396) and Green Lane.
Tickhill Bridleway 28
A newly dedicated Public Bridleway in the south west of Tickhill. It runs between Friars' Lane and Crooked Lane Head just off the Worksop Road.
Fishlake Byway 3 (Pennyshaw Lane/Newhouse Lane)
Pennyshaw Lane/Newhouse Lane in Fishlake was previously recorded as a Public Footpath. It is now a Byway Open to all Traffic.
Mexborough Public Footpath 3 (part) and Public Footpath 4 extinguishment
The extinguishment of part of Mexborough Public Footpath 3 and all of Mexborough Public Footpath 4 has now been confirmed unopposed by the Council. Access to the existing tarmac footways within the estate is not affected.
Sykehouse Bridleway 1 diversion - Topham Ferry
Sykehouse Footpath 1 at Topham Ferry has now been diverted away from the adjacent farm buildings on to the newly created causeway. It has also been reclassified to a Bridleway.
Adwick le Street Footpaths 8&8A diversion
The section of footpath in the vicinity of Adwick Mill has been diverted away from the immediate vicinity of the buildings to run along the edge of the field on the southern boundary of the properties.
Thorpe in Balne Footpaths 7&8 diversion
Thorpe in Balne Footpaths 7&8 have been diverted within the grounds of Wilsic House Farm from their existing routes to revised lines that pass around the perimeter of the property.
Hampole Footpath 3 diversion
A section of Hampole Footpath 3, between Hollins Lane (Hampole footpath 2) and Bannister Lane, has been diverted from its previous definitive line across the field and the isolated section of railway embankment (Skelbrooke towards South Elmsall) on to the adjacent headland and a shorter crossfield stretch to a waymark post on the field boundary. The "new" route appears to have been walked by most people for a number of years and the signpost at Bannister Lane points walkers along the headland.
Fenwick Footpath 17
Public Footpath rights have been recognised for the short route between Fenwick Common Lane and Fenwick Lane in the vicinity of the Old Chapel. By agreement with the Parish Council the usual green finger posts will not be erected at either end of the footpath.
Tickhill Footpath 30 - Hindley Lane
Public Footpath rights have been recognised for Hindley Lane between Apy Hill Lane and the start of Tickhill Footpath 18.
