The Gypsy Team manages and maintains the Authority's Gypsy and Traveller Sites, provides advice and liaison with other agencies and all travelling people. Liaison and management of unauthorised encampment is also a responsibility of this department.

Yes - Gypsies and travellers are protected from discrimination by the Race Relations Act 1976 and the Human Rights Act 1998, together with all ethnic groups who have a particular culture, language and values.
In April 2005, the Multicultural Education Centre and Traveller Service were merged to form a new service; the Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS). The service works with schools, families and other agencies to raise the attainment of Ethnic Minority and Traveller pupils.
EMTAS provides support for pupils with English as an additional language, refugee, asylum seeker and Traveller pupils. Advice, consultation, training and resources are available to schools and other agencies.
