Partnerships are vital to the success and work of both Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery and Cusworth Hall and Park. By working with others we can help to keep Doncaster's rich history and heritage alive.
Here are some of the key reasons why our partnerships are so important.
Detailed audience research has been conducted since 2000, and this led to targeted audience development work. A one-off development fund of £20,000 was awarded in 2003/04 to improve visitor figures at Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery. This was used for a number of audience development initiatives and as a result visitor numbers increased by 55% during the year. We now have an Audience Development and Access Strategy to highlight our work and priorities for this area.
Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery won the award for most improved audience figures from Audiences Yorkshire in December 2005. Visitor figures had increased by 125% over the previous three years.
The Museums’ Education Service has developed a highly successful Reminiscence collection for those who work with the elderly and on inter-generational projects.
A commitment to celebrating Cultural Diversity in our exhibition and event programming has led to successful exhibitions and new partnerships.
We have developed an ongoing commitment to family learning through our summer holiday and out of hours programme.
A successful Young Archaeologists' Club has been established at Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery. This is now one of the leading clubs in the country.
We have reintroduced the popular ‘Open Art’ exhibition.
We host an annual Local History Fair showcasing the work of over 40 local heritage groups. This is run by the Doncaster & District Local History Association (DDHA).
The annual Cultural Festival is now a well-established and supported event at Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery.
We have a number of rooms and recreational spaces available for community groups, schools, service providers and the general public at both our Museums.
