School Records

School records are valuable for both local and for family history. School records often include admission registers and log books, kept by the head teacher, of non-routine events affecting the school. The value of the log book varies according to the conscientiousness and ability of the teacher compiling it. At best, it can be a valuable record of school life; at worst, a perfunctory catalogue of almost random events. An admission register gives the name and address of the pupil, date of entry, name of parent or guardian, and often the reason for leaving.

Doncaster Archives has the records of over 150 schools from all parts of the Doncaster area and fifty of these include admission registers.
