What is the Family Records Centre?

The Family Records Centre (FRC) is a collaborative venture between the National Archives and the Office of National Statistics (the parent body of the General Register Office). The FRC was established to provide a central collection of the major national sources for family history. The Centre holds: 

Indexes to the civil registers of births, marriages and deaths in England and Wales from 1837 Census of population on microfilms for 1841 to 1891 (microfilm) wills and administrations (copies) before 1858 from the Prerogative court of Canterbury  Non-Parochial (that is, nonconformist) Registers of births, baptisms, marriages, deaths and burials  Death duty registers from the Estate Duty Office from 1796 to 1858.

Address: 1 Myddleton Street, London, EC1R 1UW. The Family Records Centre at this address is to close by the end of March 2008. The FRC's services will thereafter be provided by the National Archives at Kew.
