Local History Fairs
The Doncaster Local History Fairs have been organised by Doncaster and District Heritage Association since 2003 and hope to carry on producing such events in future.
Local History Fairs are a celebration of local and community history and allow visitors to gain an insight into the history of different parts of the borough through a series of exciting displays, demonstrations, competitions and talks on local topics. Talks given at the 2007 Local History Fair included Julie Harrup giving an insight into the recent restoration work at Cusworth Hall, 'Mrs Lockwood' from the Yorkshire Coalmining Museum giving an interactive interpretation of what life was like as a miner's wife in the 1940s and Richard Bell explained the mysteries of the Victorian 'Sand House'.
There are many local groups, societies, education and funding organisations, who attend these events, covering a wide range of subjects from local and family history to theatre and aircraft, railways to postcards, coalmining to archaeology, from churches to cemeteries and much more. Local enthusiasts committed to the preservation and promotion of and access to our heritage bring the history of Doncaster and the surrounding area to life.
