Stage One: Photographs and Illustrations

These web pages are the first stage of a long-term indexing project by Doncaster Archives. 

This project aims to give searchers direct access to the indexes - but not the original documents - available in the reading room of Doncaster Archives. 

There are no digitised documents available on this site.

The pages now available are those relating to photographs and illustrations. They contain an index to all the catalogued photographs and illustrations available at Doncaster Archives up to 30 November 2007. The entries will be updated on a regular basis. These pages are accessed via the link below titled Archives Place Name Index.

Stage Two: all other archival material

In addition to the photographs and illustrations available at Doncaster Archives, there is also similar material available at Doncaster Museum and at the Local Studies Library. Information about these is not currently available online and you will need to contact these other departments by letter, telephone or e-mail to find out what photographs and illustrations they have. 

The process of transferring all our index references to the website is ongoing. The online index has to date (April 2008) reached the end of the letter 'D'. It is expected that it will be complete up to and including the letter 'H' by the end of this year. If the place or type of record you are searching for is not yet available, you can contact Doncaster Archives by e-mail to request a print-out from our locally-held index.

When they are completed, these web pages will contain an index to all the documents held by Doncaster Archives, which currently occupy more than a mile of shelving in its air-conditioned strongrooms. 

If you find a reference to any photograph or document which is of interest to you, you have two choices if you wish to see it. One is to visit Doncaster Archives to consult the document or photograph in the reading room. The other is to contact Doncaster Archives by e-mail to see if you can be supplied with a copy of the original.

Opening Hours

Monday to Friday: 9.00a.m. - 12.45p.m. & 2.00p.m. - 4.45p.m. The Archives is closed at weekends and on public holidays.
