Consulting the records held at Doncaster Archives

Records will be made available to the public for research during the advertised opening hours of the Archives. Access will be granted in accordance with the search room rules, the principles and conditions of the Data Protection Act 1998 and the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The staff of Doncaster Archives will comply with any common law or statutory provision governing public access to records. Depositors may negotiate their own conditions of access with the principal archive officer.

Users of the public reading room at the Archives should be aware of the Searchroom Guidelines below.

Searchroom Guidelines

The books and documents held at the Archives are unique and irreplaceable. You are asked to handle them with great care and please observe the following points.

• NO FOOD OR DRINK OF ANY KIND may be consumed in the searchroom. This includes chewing gum and ALL sweets. Any such items brought in by the user must be kept in your bag or coat or in the lockers provided
  

• Please use pencil at all times, including for writing your own notes

• Bags must be kept under the table or in the lockers provided and must not be left unattended.

• Coats and other outerwear should be placed on the back of the chair or hung on the coat stand

• Please do not lean or rest anything on the document(s) you are using

• Please do not allow the document to hang over the edge of the table

• A member of staff can provide you with weights and a clear plastic sheet to cover the document

• Smoking is prohibited on Archives premises
  

• For the consideration of other users, please switch off your mobile phone

Opening Times and Further Information

Doncaster Archives is open Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 12.45pm & 2.00pm - 4.45pm, and closed weekends and public holidays.
