His work covers Information and Communication Technology(ICT) assessments for pupils with special needs and the identification of suitable hardware and software. Training is given to pupils, teachers, Learning Support Assistants (LSA), parents and guardians.
The co-ordinator looks at the needs of individual pupils. When appropriate, equipment is bought through the Access Fund. Training is given to the pupil, the LSA and the parents and the use of the equipment is introduced and monitored in school. When requested the ICT Co-ordinator will give advice on appropriate equipment which the school can purchase through its own budget.
Introductory ICT courses are run each term for LSAs at The Carr House Centre. Specific training is given in schools covering areas of need identified by the school. Individual or group tuition is available for parents and guardians.
