About the BSF Conference

Scene from BSF Conference

Key to the success of Building Schools for the Future (BSF) is involving all the services that make a difference to the lives of young people. With this in mind, in September 2008 Mayor Winter welcomed around 150 local representatives to a BSF conference including Council staff, young people, teachers, Councillors, unions, governors and local businesses.

Everyone was invited to discuss their involvement in the BSF programme so far, and to consider the challenges we face in the future as we begin developing our plans further. A series of interactive workshops looked at how Doncaster's vision for the future of secondary education can be acheived through the transformation of people, spaces, ICT and communities.

The next steps

All feedback provided has been considered and is already influencing Doncaster's BSF programme in a variety of ways.

Developments since the conference include:

- the establishment of Mayor Winter’s wider BSF Forum and individual Achieving Success groups in each school to ensure everyone’s views are listened to and understood

- planning for workshops to discuss developing a range of facilities in our schools to ensure they benefit and open up opportunities for whole communities

- detailed Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plans are being produced for each school to ensure each pupil can benefit from personalised learning

- the Sports and Culture group continuing to work to ensure the quality and range of new school sports facilities will be balanced across the Borough.

A report has been produced outlining the main themes and outcomes from the day and is available to download below. This report will serve as a reference document throughout the life of the programme to ensure everyone's feedback is considered and directly influences the transformation of education in Doncaster.
