The aims of the Service are:
The Service believes that the opportunity to play a musical instrument should be available to every child, regardless of financial or social circumstances.
Doncaster Music Service provides music to all ages and all backgrounds. A full music support service is offered to all schools.
Each week, pupils from all over the Metropolitan Borough come to the William Appleby Music Centre in Danum Road, Doncaster to take part in one or more of the many activities, including orchestras, bands, guitar groups, recorder groups, choirs, and theory classes. The young people play music together, make new friends and, perhaps above all, have fun. Adult classes and pre-school groups are also popular. There is a place for everyone.
Over the years, the work of the Doncaster Music Service has become renowned for its excellence, and staff are committed to maintain and improve on the high standards they have set.
Further details can be found on the Centre's website at: www.doncastermusicservice.org.uk/
In addition to the Service provided to schools, instrumental lessons are offered by teachers of the Doncaster Music Service at the William Appleby Music Centre at an extremely competitive rate. These are particularly attractive to adults and pupils of school age unable to get lessons within their school.
Lessons are currently provided for Guitar, Keyboard, Piano and percussion. Lesson length, cost and times of lessons vary according to instrument and teacher.
For further details please contact the Music Service who will be able to put you in touch with one of the teachers offering this service.
Doncaster Music Service offers sessions taken by expert teachers for pre-school and infant children with their carers. The sessions are fun and include singing, dancing, instrumental playing and play acting.
Music and movement come naturally to young children, even before speech. Many who do not yet talk, can respond to music. Through song and dance they become aware of their bodies, of each other and of the outside world. They learn to listen and understand, and to be part of a group. Most important of all, they learn to enjoy music and movement.
To apply for Music Maker lessons, please contact the Music Service for an application form.
