We seek to ensure that as many 4 year old children as possible are offered a one year, part - time place in a nursery school.
The Government has given a commitment to provide high quality nursery places for all four year olds where parents want one. They also require all Local Authorities to have an Early Years Development Plan. The plan must, amongst other things, show how a Local Authority will provide places in co-operation with the private and voluntary sectors. A copy of the plan is available to view at the Council House, the Central Library, and at local branch libraries.
Briefly, admissions to nursery classes are provided as follows:
Normal Admission
Children are normally admitted in the September following their third birthday. It is desirable that children are toilet trained (see below).
Early Admission
If there are sufficient places in a nursery, some 3 year old children may be admitted earlier. Again it is desirable that they will be toilet trained (see below).
Children will attend only 1 school nursery part-time, either five mornings or five afternoons each week. The headteacher decides which session a child will attend. Whilst every effort is made to take parents preferred session into account, parents must understand this is not always possible.
Are children required to be toilet trained?
Children who start in a nursery are normally toilet trained. It would be most helpful if parents make every effort to ensure that a child is toilet trained as the staffing ratio in a nursery does not properly allow to deal with frequent 'accidents'.
However, if your child has a specific medical condition affecting their toileting, you should include a letter of explanation with your application.
How Many Places are Available?
The schools database shows the maximum number of children that can be admitted to each nursery.
