We are pleased to publish the LA Professional Learning Programme for the academic year 2010-11 for School Staff.
In compiling the programme, we have sought to further strengthen the scope of the programme and access to a broad range of professional learning events, networks, structured meetings, courses, cluster arrangements and consultancy. We have taken account of national initiatives and priorities as well those shared with us by schools for their particular staff’s development. We have also removed some elements from the programme where similar activities were cancelled from last year’s programme or where we have received less than satisfactory evaluations.
Wherever possible, we have included details of date, timing and venue as we realise that such information is very helpful to school’s advance planning. Inevitably, however, over the time scale of twelve months, there will be new government initiatives and there will be instances where a provider has been asked to deliver additional training. In these circumstances the course provider will publish details of any events being offered and application may be via the provider.
In all other circumstances, applications are made by event number as shown in the booklet or online. If there are difficulties or further enquiries, please contact Kerry Rawson or Bev Jones as outlined above.
As there has been a change of timing with the publication of the programme from calendar year 2010 to academic year 2010-11, we have included events already advertised in the calendar year programme at the front of this programme for you information.
The majority of Professional learning opportunities within the programme are allocated event numbers to enable potential delegates to apply for places electronically. Where different arrangements apply, schools/Leaders of Professional Learning will be notified and details will be provided about contacting the event leader for details and availability.
Please note, in addition to the two week cancellation policy for full refunds on all chargeable events, none attendance without notification at non chargeable events will incur a £10 fee to cover administrative costs.
We trust that you will find this a comprehensive, and also a flexible system to provide effective support for your school’s Professional Learning and Development programme. As ever, we are always grateful to receive your comments and your suggestions for inclusions or further improvement.

As you will be aware, Workforce Remodelling and subsequently workforce development, is a national initiative whereby the Department of Education (DfE) and Local Authorities work closely together to provide a structured programme of development for schools. The programme has its own targets and processes in which schools are invited to be involved in line with an agreed approach by the local authority.
The range of activity, training and consultancy that forms the programme is shown within these pages, but for most training events, access is by invitation or nomination. Further details of the scope of the programme and how you can be involved are available through contacting the relevant Consultant and School Improvement Assistant who have specific knowledge about this area of activity.
