What is an Extended School?

Extended Schools work with local providers, agencies and other schools to provide access to a core offer of extended services some of which are available beyond normal school hours.

The services offered will depend on the needs of the local community.

The core offer is:

• Wraparound childcare from 8am to 6pm, all year round.  
• Parenting support including family learning.
• A varied range of activities including study support, sport and music clubs.
• Swift and Easy referral to specialist services.
• Community access including Adult learning and ICT       

What are the Benefits?         

There is evidence that extended services can help to:

• Improve pupil attendance, self confidence and motivation, and therefore potential to impact on acheivement.
• Better enable teachers to focus on teaching and learning.
• Enhance children's and families access to services.
