Young people in Thorne now have somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to, thanks to special funding for a brand new youth centre. The centre had a launch celebration on Monday 3 November 2008 to coincide with National Youth Work Week.
Councillor Patrick Wilson, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, who will be opening the Centre, said: “Doncaster Council is committed to providing facilities for young people across the borough which will offer activities and opportunities to broaden their horizons and take on new challenges and responsibilities. The new youth centre is excellent for news for the young people of Thorne who have been actively involved in the refurbishment from the start and the future launch event.”
The newly refurbished Youth Centre on Bridge Street offers young people aged 13-19 the opportunity to engage in a wide range of positive activities including Training Opportunities, Active Involvement, access to an Information, Advice and Guidance worker, an Extended Schools programme throughout the school holiday period and outings and residential trips.
The Centre also boasts a variety of modern facilities including a coffee bar area, computer suite, training and activity room, DJ area with plasma screen and pool and tennis tables with a social space which was funded by a successful Youth Opportunity Fund bid.
The Centre is open to young people with a Youth Club held every Thursday 5.30 - 9.30pm and Friday from 7- 9.30pm with a Youth Club & Young Peoples Sexual Health Clinic held every Monday from 6 - 9pm.
