Tuition Fee - Loan
The cost of tuition fees from September 2008 will be up to £3,145 a year. However no student will have to find the cost of their fees before or whilst studying. This is because there are government loans to cover tuition fees.
The amount charged will vary between courses as well as between universities and colleges. It will be important that you compare what is on offer and which course suits you best. You may wish to access this link www.ucas.ac.uk/search/index.html for further information on the costs of courses for the 2008/2009 academic year.
Non-repayable Grants
There is extra help to meet the costs of going to university or college for all students subject to household income. This could be worth up to £2,785 and it doesn’t have to be paid back. Should you wish to know how much you may be entitled to, please visit the http://www.studentsupportdirect.co.uk
website select the 'I am planning to go into Higher Education' button, you will then need to select the 'Calculate my entitlement' button.
Student Loans – Living Costs
Student loans to help with living costs are available. They attract a very low rate of interest – at inflation levels. The amount of student loan available depends on where you study, whether you live at home or not, your household income and the amount of maintenance grant you receive. Details of your entitlement can be found using the calculator link above.

If you are entitled to receive the full maintenance grant of £2785 and the university or college are charging £3145 tuition fees then you will be entitled to receive at least £315 bursary from the university or college. Each college or university has a different bursary scheme so you should contact the institution for further information or visit www.ucas.ac.uk/search/index.html
