What is Together Information Exchange (TIE)?

Together Information Exchange (TIE) is Doncaster's new register of children with disabilities.

The register contains information on families with a disabled child, living in Doncaster. Families who wish to join TIE fill in a form giving details of the child and the family's needs, which is stored on a secure database. 

It is hoped that people providing us with information about their situation will lead to a clearer picture of the main areas of need in Doncaster. Individual families are not identified in the production of statistics or service planning.

Why join TIE?

As a member of TIE you will receive a regular free copy of the Together newsletter, delivered to your door. Together contains articles on the things that matter to you:

• disability rights
• local services and voluntary groups
• national disability issues
• benefits and entitlements
• what's on in your area  
• leisure and out of school activities                                                             

Together also has sections where children, young people and their families can contact others in a similar situation, contribute their own articles or pictures, and share their ideas and experiences.

As well as your newsletter, you will receive updates on local and national events and developments as they are happening. We also try to send our members relevant information at appropriate times. For example, we will send information regarding the changes in benefits at age 16 to families with a child who is around this age.

Who can join TIE?

A child or young person and their family can become members of TIE if they are aged 0-19 and have a disability or condition which means they:

• Need a lot more personal attention than another child of the same age or
• Need someone to watch over them to stop them hurting themselves or others or
• Need help with getting around or
• Need a lot more stimulation, encouragement & support to help them learn and develop or
• Have problems engaging socially or emotionally with others, e.g. Autistic Spectrum Disorder

Future Events

TIE regularly receives details of upcoming events. Below is a list of events to be held in the coming months:

• The Doncaster Autistic Society is offering free places for anyone living in the NDC areas to the pantomime at the Little Theatre - Jack and The Beanstalk.  The free places are for the performance on 27th December at 1:45pm.  For further information and to book your place please contact the Doncaster Autistic Society on: 01302 349886 or 07896 190495(you must book your place before the performance - please do not just turn up on the day)
• Kic Start Cinema hold special viewings for children with disabilities and their families.  The viewings are held in a low sensory environment with low lighting and volume and there is a quiet area/time-out room available if required. 
  The screenings are £2 per child and £2 per adult and places can be pre-booked for wheelchairs or major buggies. The screenings are held at a cinema in Sheffield and start at 11am. For more details on this, please telephone: 0114 275 7727 or visit the website at:  www.showroom.org.uk  

• If you would like to be put in touch with other parents in similar situations as yourself, please phone us and let us know. We will try and match you with a suitable family to enable you to swap advice and provide friendship and support to each other.
