National Dementia Strategy

The National Dementia Strategy 'Living well with dementia' was published 3 February 2009.

The strategy provides a strategic framework within which local services can

  • deliver quality improvements to dementia services and address health inequalities relating to dementia;
  • provide advice and guidance and support for health and social care commissioners and providers in the planning, development and monitoring of services; and
  • provide a guide to the content of high-quality services for dementia.

The Doncaster Picture Two Years on

This report is produced by the Older People’s Mental Health Steering Group (OPMHSG) and aims to inform the Doncaster Community of the developments that have taken place in Doncaster over the last two years since the launch of the National Dementia Strategy (NDS). The OPMH Steering Group has met consistently for several years and members represent the Health and Social Care community. Membership includes representation from:

• NHS Doncaster (NHSD)
• Rotherham and Doncaster Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH)
• Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council (DMBC)
• Doncaster and Bassetlaw Foundation Trust (DBH)
• Alzheimer’s Society
• Age UK
• Doncaster Dementia Forum (DDF)

Patient and Public Involvement is ensured through the Doncaster Dementia Forum (DDF). The DDF was launched in July 2010 and the Chair of the Forum attends the OMPH steering group. Following some background information on the National Dementia Strategy (NDS) and the structure for delivering the Strategy in Doncaster, the report is divided into three simple areas:
