What is Telecare?

Telecare is the provision of assistive technology products/equipment which are linked up to the Community Alarm Service that operates for 24 hrs a day, all year round to help people to live at home independently.

The service is for people who are experiencing difficulties in relation to independent living because of their illness condition eg:

How will Telecare assist you?

This equipment will help to assist you in living safely and independently in your own home within the community with peace of mind as there will be someone on the other end of the phone to respond to any alerts that are triggered from the equipment.

Who responds to the alerts?

An alert is sent through the lifeline to the Community Alarm Service from your equipment if you have fallen and need help, left the house (eg purposeful walking) and are unable to return, certain epilepsy conditions (clonic-tonic), have left taps on causing a flood, if there is smoke or fire detected, extreme changes in temperature which may have a detrimental effect due to your illness or medical condition.

The Community Alarm Service Advisors amd Mobile Wardens are trained to deal with emergencies quickly and efficiently and staff the Control Centre around the clock

How do you access the Telecare Service?

By referring to us through the e-form link below.  Please give basic details asked for on the form.

For example:

Your details as referrer (as we may need to speak to you or have your involvement)

The name of the person you are referring giving their name, address, date of birth, and personal details.  

Then submit the form to us.

What will happen next?

The Telecare Officer based in the Adult Contact Team will get in touch and make arrangements for a visit to the referred person or through named person for contact and will provide Info, advice and arrange for the recommended equipment to be installed to enable independent living within the community.

Charges for the Telecare Service

There will be a small weekly charge for the service once the equipment has been installed. There is no charge for the equipment or installation.  

You can be financially assessed for the service or can also be referred to the Benefits Advice and Tribunal Unit (BATU) in order to find out if you qualify for any benefits to help you maximise your finances. BATU hold surgeries at various locations in Doncaster. To find out which one is nearest to you please ring 01302 735270.
