Doncaster Council provides support and help to people with physical disabilities. Services include:
- Day Centres
- Respite Care
- Social Work
- Advice and information
- Rehabilitation and occupational therapy services
- Aids and equipment to help with daily living

Equipment and adaptations to the home
If you:
- have a disability
- or are elderly
- or have a long term illness which causes you to have difficulties coping with daily living tasks
we may be able to help you.
If you or your partner or a friend contact us using the details above, we will arrange a convenient time for someone from the Council to visit you to talk about what you need.
The Motability Scheme
The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to obtain a car, powered wheelchair or scooter simply by using their government-funded mobility allowances. Customers exchange their allowance for a worry-free mobility package, including:
- Car, powered wheelchair or scooter
- Insurance
- Servicing
- Tyres
- Breakdown cover
- Adaptations and wheelchair accessible vehicles are also available
Over 530,000 customers currently choose Motability for their mobility needs and 97% of them would recommend the Scheme to their friends.
Who can use the Motability Scheme?
The Scheme is open to anyone who receives one of the following benefits, and has at least 12 months' award length remaining when they apply:
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance
- War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement
Around two-thirds of their customers drive, but non-drivers can get a car as a passenger. Similarly, parents and carers can also apply on behalf of a child.
There are:
- NO medical assessments
- NO credit checks
- NO waiting lists

TV Licence Concessions
If you or someone you live with is blind or severely sight impaired, you qualify to receive a 50% concession on the cost of your TV Licence.
When you reach the age of 75, you may apply for a free over 75 TV Licence.
If you're a care home resident, and you watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV, you'll need to make sure you're covered by a TV Licence.

Help with the switchover to Digital TV in 2011
The Switchover to Digital TV is coming to the Yorkshire television region in 2011. and the Digital Switchover Help Scheme is now available in the Doncaster area. The scheme is a national Government scheme run by the BBC and was set up to help those who may not be able to switch to digital on their own due to disability, social isolation or other factors.
Full information is available on the scheme's website, but briefly, to be eligible for the Help Scheme assistance, clients must be one of the following :
aged 75 or over OR
have lived in, or are expected to live in, a care home for six months or more OR
be in receipt, or could receive, disability living allowance, attendance allowance, constant attendance allowance or mobility supplement OR
be registered severely sight impaired (blind) or partially sighted
The service offers those eligible help to convert one television set in each household to digital – often at no cost to you.
