Older people are increasingly leading independent healthy lives well into their 80's and 90's, and reaching 100 is no longer the rarity it used to be. For example in Doncaster, according to the 2001 census, there were 308 people over 95 and 43 of these were over 100.
Doncaster Council is committed to delivering services to help older people live as independently as possible, either in their own home or in a care home. We also provide help for the people who care for them.
Your needs may have to be assessed by someone from our teams to access some of the services. There may also be a charge for some of the services too.
We are continuously looking at how we provide services and whether we can provide them in different ways that suit different people. However, with the older population rising, decreasing availability of resources and rising costs of care it is crucial that we put long term plans in place to make sure we can provide what people need.
We are currently looking into what our priorities are going to be for the next 5 - 10 years and from this we will be putting together a White Paper that people in Doncaster will have the chance to comment on. We will let you know when this is available.
There are plenty of services available for older people in Doncaster. The Older People's Directory contains a wealth of information about services across the borough from housing to health to social groups and leisure activities.
