As part of the Council's programme to review all 46 conservation areas the character of the William Nuttall Cottage homes conservation area has been assessed for the first time and a draft appraisal, including management proposals, has been compiled. The appraisal sets out what is special about the area and will be used to guide planning decisions. The appraisal also includes proposals that recommend measures that could be used to help preserve or enhance the special character and appearance of the conservation area.

A conservation area is an area of special architectural or historic interest, the character of which is desirable to preserve or enhanced. As part of the review of all 46 conservation areas in the Borough Conisbrough Conservation area has been assessed and a draft appraisal, including management proposals, has been compiled. The proposals give suggestions on how the uniqueness can be preserved and/or enhanced.

Following the restoration of Cusworth lakes, a flourishing ecology has built up both in and around the lakes, including Water Vole colonies, which are a protected species. An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was commissioned to assist in informing whether or not angling should be re-introduced at the Lakes. The consultation is on the findings of the EIA and the question of angling resumption.
