Who should attend?
The flexibility of this course will be of benefit to people working in a diverse range of catering backgrounds from school caterers and those working in the care sector to restaurant and hotel staff. It would also be suitable for GCSE students taking relevant food and health subjects.
The course is available to individual candidates or can be customised to meet an organisations specific needs.
This course has also been adapted to meet the requirements of care homes. The content of the course remains the same but with the emphasis being on feeding the elderly and those in care homes. The second part of the course includes a session from a community dietician who discusses the problems in relation to feeding those in care homes and practical demonstrations on modified diets. This also gives anyone involved in the feeding of residents a chance to ask any related questions. The cost including lunch and refreshments is £75 per delegate.
Course Content
The following topics are included in the syllabus:-
- Introduction to Nutrition
- The Eatwell Plate
- Diet and Health
- Nutritional Requirements of Different Groups
- Food Processing
- Food Labelling
Duration
The course is of approximately 8 hours duration including refreshment breaks and exam. It can be presented to suit individual company requirements, i.e. weekends, mornings, evenings etc.
The Course is followed by a short multiple choice test comprising of 30 questions. The pass mark being 20. The test is available in a range of ethnic languages (see below) or can be conducted orally for anyone who has reading difficulties, provided we are notified in advance of the course date.

Qualification
All successful candidates will receive the nationally recognised Level 2 Award in Healthier Foods and Special Diets Certificate.
