Attendance and Welfare

Learner Engagement Service (Attendance) previously Education Welfare Service

Doncaster Learner Engagement Service (Attendance) formerly the Education Welfare Service, works with schools, parents/carers, pupils and other agencies in partnership to reduce unnecessary absences from school.

The majority of pupils attend school regularly and find it an enjoyable experience. However, some pupils do have some attendance difficulties for many different reasons. Parents and carers may be aware of this, but they do not know who to contact for help and advice.

In the first instance it is always the best policy to talk to your child’s school. Good communication between parents/carers and schools will help to identify and address any issues and needs that are crucial to ensuring good attendance in the future.

The responsibilities of the Learner Engagement Service (Attendance) are;-

  • To monitor school attendance of pupils

  • To provide a link between school, parents/carers and pupils where necessary

  • To develop supportive relationships with parents/carers schools and pupils

  • To consult and work with other agencies and to support parents/carers and pupils where expertise in a given area of need is necessary.

  • To issue FPN’s for non school attendance

  • To issue FPN’S for holiday in term time

  • To take legal action against parents if their child is not accessing education or suitable educational provision.

  • To prevent the exploitation of children or young people in employment and in entertainment

  • Issue adults with chaperone licences and undertake CRB checks for children involved in performances

  • To identify, track and monitor any children who are missing from education
