Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS)
Aims of the service
Doncaster has a large and diverse multicultural community, with over 94 different languages spoken.
It also has the largest Gypsy and Traveller population for a borough council in the country.
The main aim of the service is to work in partnership with schools, the LA (Local Authority), settings and other agencies to:
Raise the attainment & improve admissions and attendance of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (GRT) pupils, and Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) pupils, including those with English as an additional language (EAL) across all key stages.
Promote equality and community cohesion.
We are a diverse multi-ethnic team consisting of Consultant Teachers, Bilingual Classroom Assistants (BCAs), Traveller Early Years Specialist Workers, Traveller Learning Support Assistants.
We continue to liaise with the BME Admissions Officer and the GRT Admissions & Attendance Liaison Officers, who can now be contacted on 01302 736504.
Since April 2010, EMTAS has been a partly traded service, so there may be a charge for some of the services below.
