Information and advice

Doncaster Trading Standards have produced this helpful list of useful links to find out all sorts of information:
- Directgov is a government website that has advice for young people on managing your money, including topics such as advice when shopping, and money saving ideas.
- Under-age Sales is all about certain goods that are sold to children who aren’t old enough. Here you can find out how old you need to be to buy these items.
- Proof of Age I.D. cards are a simple way to show how old you are to buy things with an age limit. From £15 you can get one from companies such as Validate UK or Citizencard.
- Think Safe is a great website, where you can have fun playing ‘mini-games’ to help you learn all sorts of important safety advice.
Competitions!
You can have the chance to win for yourself, and your school with two competitions that are run by the Trading Standards Institute (TSi):
Young Consumer of the Year - is a knockout quiz for schools right across Britain. Once a year, teams of 4 pupils aged between 14 and 18 compete in the quiz which is held in 3 stages, ultimately with the national final being held at the 'TSi Annual Conference'.
The Playsafe Competition - is a challenge competition to design (on paper) a safe toy. It was created by TSi and the British Toy and Hobby Association (BTHA) to encourage a greater awareness of safety features in the design of toys.
