Good sports don't fake it
Beware of scams in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics

After the success of the National Consumer Week campaign 'Good sports don't fake it', Doncaster Council’s Trading Standards team are continuing the message to alert consumers about fakes and scams in the RUN up to the Olympics commencing on 27th July 2012.
The aim is to alert consumers about fake merchandise, scams and other fraudulent practices in connection with the Olympics, including:
- counterfeit goods
- fake tickets and web-sites
- Olympic lottery scams
- package holidays/deals
Looking to the Olympics in 2012, more and more people are encouraged to take up or support sport, but there is a considerable amount of counterfeit sportswear on sale; on the Internet, in shops and on market stalls.
Trading Standards will be carrying out checks throughout Doncaster and on Internet sites. Markets and car boot fairs are encouraged to work with their local trading standards team to keep their venues fake-free.
Fakes not only harm legitimate traders but, depending on the type of goods being counterfeited, may pose a safety risk to consumers. In addition the profits from illegal sales helps to fund other organised crime.
