Local Economic Assessment for Doncaster

What is the Local Economic Assessment?

All councils are required by the Government to assess the economic conditions of its area.  The Local Economic Assessment (LEA) enables Local Authorities to gain a clear understanding of the conditions required for business to thrive and for people to take advantage of the economic opportunities in the area.  It will ensure that future economic planning is based on a good understanding of the economic strengths and weaknesses of the area.

Doncaster's Local Economic Assessment

Doncaster’s LEA was approved by Cabinet in February 2011.  The assessment compares Doncaster with selected comparator areas in order to gain perspective of performance in context, and highlight economic relationships with other areas.  Overall, the LEA highlights strengths and weaknesses particular to Doncaster in order to inform and provide consistency for future policy and strategy development.

The LEA is a ‘living document’ and as such, content will be continuously updated, ensuring that it contains current economic evidence.  A refresh of the current LEA will commence in April 2012.

Data and findings are set out so they can be easily referred to for further analysis to suit the requirements of users.  Due to its size, the LEA has been broken down into 12 Chapters, all of which are attached to this web page.
