Celebrating Success
Case study:
For the past three years Kyle has been attending Bentley Training Centre. When he first started he was in year 10 at school and completed a City and Guilds Building Craft Operative course with ourselves via Doncaster College. In His year 11 he achieved a level 1 Certificate in Basic Construction Skills.
After he left school he decided to stay on with us and explore the Carpentry and Joinery route into construction. This has been the most challenging year for Kyle to date. But the work he produces within the joinery shop conforms to such high standards it would not be out of place within the industry.
Kyle has continued to perform and push himself through the obstacles he has faced this year. He has had to face and overcome many personal issues, the main being the death of his father. Giving credit to his determined nature and desire to achieve he has continued attending and with great effort is on course to gain the qualification he set out on all those months ago. With the achievement of this year helping to reinforce the achievements of his previous two years Kyle has set himself a precedent of success and achievement for his future.
Students get Green Fingered at Bentley Horticultural Centre
Students are being given the opportunity to grow their own fruit and vegetables at Bentley Horticulture Centre.
The former derelict site, situated adjacent to Bentley Training Centre has proven to be successful with all ages ranging from 16 – 60. Under the guidance and instruction of a qualified Tutor twenty students have achieved a nationally recognised qualification in Horticulture and several have secured employment within the borough.
Tutor “Some students don’t want to leave and have offered to stay on at the site as volunteers, once their training programme has completed”.
Student, “Andy Marshall, I love it here and want to stay on and learn more”.
A range of produce has been grown including Strawberries, Potatoes, Carrots, Shallots, Green Beans, Peas and Blackberries.
With the completion of a fully fitted commercial kitchen and classroom now based at the site we hope to extend the range of activities available and include training course in healthy eating, food hygiene, weight management and basic cooking. The classroom and Kitchen facility is available for rent, all enquires should be made to 01302 862650 or emailed to hayleyogrady@doncaster.gov.uk
